Brand equity of economic times says “Free bee all the way”
Brand equity, the Wednesday supplement of Economic times wrote about 160by2. here is the link to the article on economictimes website. Preeti was talking about the other model where the consumers are paid to receive advertisements as SMS messages and compared them with 160by2. I did not like the way she ended the article where she says inspite of the best of intension it is plain vanilla spam.
I think she did not understand our business model completly, because our users know that the recepients of their free sms will have ads in the lower half of the sms message. The recepients also have the option of opting out of receiving the messages by www.160by2.com/stop . looking at the way we are growing both in the number of registrations and the messages that are being sent out, this is a service that users are comfortable using and inviting friends to use it as well. Hope we will keep growing like this, thanks to the media coverage.

Its a trifle difficult to understand anything free. Understand Preetis problem – she knew there was a catch somewhere but she did not get the point. To me as an user it serves me well. I like the free bit and apart from that the ease of operation is what is more attractive. I send a mail and follow up with an sms.
