now into day 2 with the new UI and we are getting feedback that the new look is better. It took us about a month of designing and re-designing to come up with this new design. we tried to make it simple and intutive as always.
We took utmost care to make the web application easy to use at the same time making sure that the new features that we plan to introduce in the near future will plug into this new design seemlessly. One striking change in this new design is the way the outbox and inbox messages are displayed. we wanted to break away from the traditional report format and wanted to give them the look of messages as seen on your mobile phones. So messages that you sent and received are like SMS on your phone – like a box.
We introduced a new feature “shared messages” where the users can browse all shared messages and forward them to themselves or friends if they like the SMS content. The shared messages that users now see online are all compiled and categorised by 160by2 editorial team. Shortly users can start sharing their SMS so that they are forwarded and stored by the whole comunity.
I would appreciate if you can give us your feedback on the design, ease of navigation and inform of any bugs that you encounter.

Why have you removed the facility to delete all message history i.e. the old messsages already sent. Now there is no way to delete them. Why have you done this?
September 8th, 2007 at 6:30 am
One suggestion – add a facilty whereby one can send the same message to multiple recepients. I dont sugest any number or recepients (wheerby it will be used for commercial purposes and spam) but lets say to five recepients. Would be very helpful to a lot of us. If you start this, then you should also have a facility of having the contacts in groups s0 that a group may be chosen rather than individual contacts.

But i guess if u work arund more with the header it culd look nice too, newayz rest is also ok.
btw it wuld b cool, if u add a functionality which enables us (users) to customize the way our interface looks (may be the colour combination & all….).

Hi Abhishek,
I want to clarify that we are experimenting with a few ad formats to measure the consumer behavior like the click throughs and conversions. The reason we put third party ad like google is only cos their reporting is world class.
Some of our advertisers are also asking for a online campaign to complement the mobile campaign and so we are trying to understand user patterns and thus increase the effectiveness of our future campaigns.
You should also understand that the revenue from such 3rd party ads are so meager that they cannot take care of our coffee bills. 160by2 internet ad model will generate big revenues if they can help drive more mobile traffic.
I will keep writing about our internet ad model as we make progress introducing new features.

nicely redone! “Remember Me” option during login missing, it’s a pain to login over and again, especially as i use the website quite a few times a day. Persistent cookies, anyone?

Sri,
Whatever we do is a team effort. Our dev team has been nice to me and has incorporated some of my ideas too!
Was a bit busy with other things hence did not participate on the blog…
Abhishek,
While you are entitled to for your own view – the way I would say it is: Mobile ads are a great hit with our users as well as advertisers. We are working with a number of leading national and local brands on their campaigns right now. At the same time we are offering more value to our advertisers by providing them opportunity to advertise on internet too.
As Satya has said we are experimenting with various formats, and are trying to establish best practices for a nascent medium. We are trying our best to maintain commercial viability of business while taking care of user and advertiser preferences.
If we were to monetise our site just like that we would have pasted google ad feeds all over the place…. Hope you agree.
Either ways please keep the comments and feedback pouring in.

I was wondering who writes the SMSes to be forwarded on your website. I have seen some racially offending sms jokes on your website. Would you please make an attempt to clean up the mess?

Hey Team,
I appreciate the whole for such a great idea.
Between i would request you to provide the facility to delete the messages already sent. That would be of a great help.
I know this is being discussed and i’m just repeating. But its really a genuine requirement. Whats the need of keeping old message? The user can decide which messages to be deleted and which to be kept.
Hope there will be a change soon…
Thnx…
September 14th, 2007 at 4:44 am
why u have removed d option to delete sms … now i cant delete my outbox wht will if i dont want to keep the history .. do something about this..
September 16th, 2007 at 10:56 pm
i lik this web sit
September 17th, 2007 at 7:38 am
We will enable the “delete” feature in inbox and outbox pages in a day. The reason it was disabled was because the user interface with box-look was producing irregular design when some messages were deleted. We have now relooked at the design so that deleting messages will not disturb the page look and feel.
Thanks for your feedback and keep telling us what you want and we will work to incorporate them into the website.
September 19th, 2007 at 2:35 am
Thanks a lot of enabling the option for deleting the messages.
Keep it up…
